The RULES!

Do you love to to take pictures of your time spent on our beautiful WV national rivers? Take a look at this opportunity to display your favorite ones and possibly win some cash.

1. General Competition Rules:

a. The general public may submit photos. Board members of Friends of New River Gorge National River (FNRGNR), National Park Service (NPS)   employees and families may submit photos but are not eligible for prizes.

b. Photographers may submit three photos in each category. However, the same photo may not be submitted in multiple categories.

c. There is a $10.00 submission fee per photo for adults age 16 and above, and a $5.00 submission fee per photo for youth entries. Both adults and youth are limited to a maximum of three photos per category.

d. Photos may be current or historical and may be in color or black and white.

e. Submissions must be matted with the actual photograph no smaller than 5”x5” in size. Photographers are responsible for printing and matting their entries. Framing is not required but is acceptable.

f. All photos must have been taken in the areas of the New River Gorge National River, Bluestone National Scenic River or Gauley River National Recreation Area.

g. Photos of pictures, paintings, lithographs or other photographs are not eligible for submission.

h. Photographers agree to allow FNRGNR to use pictures of their submissions on the FNRGNR Facebook page without compensation. All selected photographers will be credited for their photographs with the photographer maintaining all rights to their photographs submitted.

2. Categories:

a. There are three main categories for submissions:

• New River Gorge National River

• Bluestone National Scenic River

• Gauley River National Recreation Area.

b. Submissions may include photographs of such things as:

• Landscape and Scenery: Mountains, creeks, historic areas, snowy fields, clouds, buildings, architecture, etc.

• Flora and Fauna: Birds, bees, animals, flowers, trees, etc.

• Activities in the Areas: Fishing, swimming, hiking, picnicking, etc.
3. Prizes:

i. One photograph will be selected as "Best in Show" with an award of $100.00.

j. There will be $50.00 awarded to one winner in each main category and a ribbon will be awarded for second and third place in each main category. The "Best in Show" winner is not eligible for the main category awards.

4. Timeline and Other Information:

a. All pictures must be submitted no later than January 10, 2020. Pictures submitted past the deadline are not eligible for entry.

b. FNRGNR will display all pictures at Adventures on the Gorge Conference Center in The Lookout Post (located by the pool) for a Coffee and Cake Exhibition Event on January 18, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

c. Those in attendance at the January 18 event will select the winners of the “Best in Show” as well as the winners in the three main categories by purchasing tickets at $1.00 per vote. Voting will commence at 2:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. and it is open to the public, so please invite your friends to come out and join the fun. Votes will then be tabulated and all winners will be announced at 4:45 p.m. All winners not in attendance will be notified via email and/or phone by January 31.

d. All photos and submission fees must be mailed to:  FNRGNR at PO Box 312, Glen Jean, WV 25846

 Photos may be submitted in person at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center in Lansing, WV, or Sandstone Visitor Center, Sandstone, WV. Submission fees  cannot be accepted at the National Park Visitor Centers. Entrants may also contact anyone on the FNRGNR Board to make arrangements to drop off prints and submission fees. Please watch the FNRGNR Facebook page and website for opportunities to drop off prints and fees directly to FNRGNR Board members at local events.

e. Each photo shall be marked on the back with the following information:  Name, Email Address, Mailing Address , Phone Number , Category, Youth or Adult (16 and Above)

f. There will also be silent auction items at the January 18 event, including a chance to win a beautiful New River Gorge Bridge metal sculpture generously donated by Michael Sizemore and Mountain Artworks. Some of the auction items will be posted on the FNRGNR Facebook page prior to the competition date.

g. All winning prints will be exhibited at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center from January 26 through February 26, 2020. Non-winning entries may be taken home on the day of the event. All other non-winning entries will be available for pickup at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center from January 26 through February 26, 2020. The displayed winning entries will be available after February 26 and kept for pickup until March 16, 2020. After that time, all photos not recovered will become the property of FNRGNR.
